Abstract
This study examines the role of state administration in promoting a sustainable
palm oil industry in Indonesia. As a strategic economic sector, the palm oil
industry contributes significantly to national development but also generates
environmental and social challenges. The government plays a key role through
policy formulation, regulation, supervision, and incentive mechanisms to ensure
sustainability-oriented practices. This research employs qualitative and
quantitative approaches through literature review, policy analysis, and case
studies, focusing on key initiatives such as the deforestation moratorium, the
Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification, and incentive programs
managed by BPDPKS. The findings indicate that government interventions have
contributed to reduced deforestation, improved productivity, and increased
certification coverage. However, challenges remain, including weak law
enforcement, limited access to certification for smallholders, and global market
pressures.
