Abstract

This study aims to analyze the potential for natural tourism in the Batanggonang sub-district which has become a Reparkab (District Tourism Development Plan) by the Tourism Office in North Padang Lawas Regency. Batang Onang District is dominated by the agricultural and tourism sectors. These sectors become opportunities for agro-tourism development. Agro-tourism development is carried out by integrating tourist objects and agricultural activities, so that they become a new attraction for tourists. The method used in this study is the analysis of Tourism Objects and Attractions (ODTW), the Strategic Architecture method. The results showed that there were three villages with a high potential classification of agro-tourism development of 50%. The village is recommended for agro-tourism development areas while villages with low potential classification will be proposed as agro-tourism development supporting villages. The development of agro-tourism in Batang Onang District is included in the feasibility category which is approaching high or equal to 63.9%, then the decision to visit tourists is included in the feasibility category which is approaching high or equal to 71.3%. Tourists rate the beauty of nature, the friendliness of the people, and the popularity of tourist objects as the main goals for visiting this sub-district. The development of agro-tourism in 5 years requires a turn-around strategy and a grow-build strategy, this strategy means that there are great opportunities, but have constraints or weaknesses, so the best strategy used is the nine alternative W-O strategies. The first strategy for the agro-tourism development program is for the government, extension workers, and village officials to collaborate to socialize the latest agricultural technology to the community and farmers, then finally the government, researchers, and community consultative bodies provide an explanation of the benefits of agro-tourism in the Batang Onang sub-district.
